With a winery history dating back to 1761, long-lived is perhaps an understatement when describing the wines of Giacomo Borgono & Figli. Based in Barolo proper, the Borgogno estate is focused on the classic methods of production for Barolo: extended maceration, fermentation in concrete, aging in large, older botti, and the predilection to blend grapes grown across the Barolo zone as opposed to single-cru bottlings. Despite wonderful holdings in marquee crus such as Cannubi, Fossati, Rue and monopole Liste, Borgogno elects to achieve balance through blending across a variety of soil types and exposures. Even more rarely seen in Barolo is the Borgogno level of depth in terms of library wines which are slowly released into the market from their meticulous cellars.
